A Monster Calls is a play adaptation of Patrick Ness's 2011 fantasy novel of the same name about a 13-year-old boy named Conor O'Malley who is visited by a giant monster that emerges from a yew tree in a churchyard. The monster offers to tell Conor three stories in exchange for Conor telling him the truth about his worst nightmare. The stories help Conor understand his complicated feelings about his mother's terminal cancer and being bullied at school. The play explores themes of isolation, acceptance, and the importance of storytelling.
